Prosecutors told Nottingham Crown Court that Veronique John killed her seven-year-old daughter Elizabeth and her eleven-year-old son Ethan because she did not want her husband to have them.
Before going to a car wash in a dressing gown to stab her spouse Nathan John in the stomach, John allegedly stabbed Ethan more than 20 times and caused brain damage to her daughter Elizabeth, according to the trial-of-facts hearing.
Then, after going back home, she called 999 and said, “I am calling to report that I just killed my two kids.”
The employee of the charity shop allegedly informed the police when they showed up at her Stoke-on-Trent house on June 11.
John had been arrested the day before the deadly attacks for hitting her spouse with a piece of wood as their kids were preparing for bed. It was said that she had suspected him of being unfaithful.
The court was informed that John and her spouse had encountered significant challenges in their marriage, and she had refused to provide him a phone that could access the internet.
John’s “rage was boiling just under the surface” in the last hours before the children were killed, according to prosecutor Peter Grieves-Smith.
