According to the Trump administration, Columbia University has failed to take action against antisemitism on campus, hence the university is instantly losing $400 million (£310 million) in federal funding.
In a statement, the US Department of Education said that “continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students” was the reason for the funding cut.
Last year, pro-Palestinian demonstrations against Israel and the Gaza War centered on the New York university.
President Trump had threatened to stop financing colleges and universities that permit “illegal protests” earlier this week.
