It happened on Monday, following his thrilling victory over Khalid Graidia at Wembley Arena.
“My phone blew up just now. “It was simply peculiar,” Whittaker said to Sport.
In the days following his catastrophic defeat over Graidia, “The Surgeon,” as he is called, uploaded two videos to his channel, demonstrating his lightning-fast reflexes and his showy antics, which included dancing around the ring during exchanges.
“I’ve been doing this style since I was a kid and out of nowhere my socials all went crazy,” Whittaker stated.
It’s good, so you can’t complain; I’m just being myself. I won’t alter for anyone, and as long as I complete the task, that’s all that matters.
Whittaker amassed over 100,000 Instagram followers in a mere 24 hours following the initial video. His follower count hit one million by March, and it has now surpassed two million.
His sixth bout as a professional, the highlight video from his victory in February garnered 2.7 million likes and 58 million views on Instagram.
Some boxing fans have criticized Whittaker’s manner, saying it is disrespectful to the opponent on the opposite side of the ring.
The 27-year-old, who is from Darlaston, which is close to Walsall in the West Midlands, is sure that he is only expressing himself through showboating.
