The creation of a committee to reorganize ministries and departments was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday in an effort to strengthen the province’s governance structure.
According to a statement from the CM’s House, the chief minister has appointed a 14-member special high-powered committee, whose job it is to submit the recommendations in this regard within 60 days.
The convener of the reform committee is Marriyum Aurangzeb, the senior provincial minister. The group will also include Law Minister Sohaib Ahmad Barth and Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman.
“Departments experiencing losses will undergo downsizing. There will be the elimination of many institutions carrying out comparable tasks,” the statement said.
According to the handout, the chief minister was informed that the administration of official matters will be made easier by shrinking the size of ministries.
“By undertaking restructuring and downsizing, the performance of institutions will be expedited and [the] public service delivery system will be made simple, easy and swift.”
