ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) politician Mustafa Kamal and Senator Faisal Vawda submitted an apology to the Supreme Court on Friday, and the court rescinded the contempt of court notice that had been issued against them.
Both Senator Faisal Vawda and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Mustafa Kamal have realized that the language they used were incorrect, according to the court’s order, which was read by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
“They have now withdrawn their statement and tendered an unconditional apology to the court,” stated the order.
Vawda said he had put himself at the mercy of the supreme court when he submitted an unqualified apology to the court on Wednesday in the contempt case. Kamal had also demanded an unqualified apology earlier this month for his comments disparaging the court.
The court also noted that the show-cause notice for both politicians should be withdrawn in light of their admission of guilt and subsequent introspection.
“You can stand up and speak in the parliament,” the chief judge said during the hearing in reference to Article 66 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to free speech in parliament.
Both politicians were advised by CJP Isa to “be careful in the future” when bringing up the court. “We expect you to respect us as much as we do.
