KARACHI: The metropolis had its warmest July night since 2021 yesterday night as dry, scorching weather with heatwaves battled the city.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that while the lowest temperature was recorded at 32°C last night, temperatures as high as 31°C were recorded in July 2021 and 2022.
According to the PMD, the temperature was 4.1°C higher than usual last night.
The Met Office has forecast that “over the next 24 hours, the weather is expected to remain hot and humid, with maximum temperatures likely to reach 35°C to 37°C,” even if sea breezes are expected to cause temperatures in the city to drop.
On the other hand, the PMD predicts that usual temperatures in July will stay around 27.9°C.
The return of sea winds is expected to bring sea clouds to the city and the potential for “drizzle in the night and morning in different areas in the coming days,” according to weather specialist Jawad Memon.
A brief period of rain provided a little reprieve from the extreme heat that has been plaguing Sindh, the province capital, in recent days.
Health experts have recommended the public to boil water before drinking it and to limit their intake to meals and beverages prepared at home rather than outside restaurants.
