England’s captain, Jos Buttler, feels that in order to save their T20 World Cup campaign, they cannot allow themselves to get “consumed” by the combinations in Group B.
After a disastrous loss to Australia and a washout against Scotland, the reigning champions must win their next two matches with great conviction if they are to advance in net run-rate.
They play Namibia on Saturday after playing Oman on Thursday in Antigua.
According to Buttler, “the situation will unfold during the game.”.
“First of all, we’ve got no chance unless we win so we’re fully focused on trying to win the game and hopefully if we can do that, maybe we’ll get in a position where we can affect the net run-rate.”
While England trained at the Antigua Recreation Ground in St John’s ahead of their match against Oman at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the main stadium on the island, Buttler answered questions from the media on Tuesday despite not being scheduled to speak.
England and Scotland would draw level on points with two wins, but Scotland have a large net run-rate lead after defeating Oman on Sunday by chasing 151 in 13.1 overs.
England is currently on -1.800, while Scotland is at 2.164. However, there are currently too many combinations to provide a precise estimate of what Buttler’s side needs.
Scotland has the opportunity to eliminate England regardless of their performance if they defeat Australia in their last game later this Saturday (Sunday at 01:30 BST).
