Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing further setbacks, as a study for The Times placed Reform UK at 19% and the Conservatives at 18%.
Shortly before a debate between prominent members of the seven major parties on TV, the results were revealed.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Farage showed off how happy he was with the poll, stating, “We overtook the Conservatives in the national opinion polls just before we came on air.”
“We are now the opposition to Labour.”
He also asserted, in a reversal of Conservative campaign rhetoric, that electing the Tories over Reform would make a Labour government possible.
During a question-and-answer period, Mr. Farage attacked Conservative frontbencher Penny Mordaunt, citing growing net migration in spite of Tory pledges to restrict it.
“Why on earth should anybody believe the fifth manifesto that promises cuts to net migration?” said the politician.
The audience chortled as Ms. Mordaunt said, “Because of this prime minister’s record.”
