Ahsan Iqbal, the Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives, suggested on Saturday that the National Assembly form a special committee to look into the increasing number of lynchings that are occurring nationwide under the pretext of desecration and blasphemy.
Speaking on a “point of order” in the lower chamber of parliament, Ahsan denounced the recent Swat lynching episode and claimed it had damaged the nation’s reputation abroad.
He warned that the name of the religion is being utilized in violation of the law and the Constitution, saying, “This anarchy will burn [all of] us if we do not take notice of it.”
A guy was killed by burning on Thursday in the Madyan area of the Swat district due to accusations of blasphemy.
The district police officer (DPO) stated that the incident happened after the suspect was taken into custody by law enforcement and transferred to the police station, where he was later abducted by the mob and set ablaze.
Subsequently, the disorderly group of individuals also set fire to the Madyan police station and caused damage to the police cars.
The planning minister claimed in the house that in addition to lynching the man, the enraged crowd had arrived to witness the man’s body being burned.
Speaking from personal experience, he described how a religious fanatic attempted to kill him, but by the grace of Allah Ta’ala, he survived.
