WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Masood Khan, received plaudits from US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Horst on Friday for his efforts to create “bridges between Islamabad and Washington”.
“On behalf of the State Department, I just want to note that the US-Pakistan relationship is in the best place it’s been in years, in part, in large part to what Ambassador Masood Khan has done to represent Pakistan, to build bridges between Islamabad and Washington,” said Horst at the farewell dinner.
The Department of State and the Department of Defense sent representatives to the ceremony, which was planned to honor Khan’s services.
Like any long-term partnership, there has been friction in the connections between the two countries, the US official representing the State Department said. However, “because of you, we know how we can talk through this and we have a framework to talk through friction”, she added.
Following his departure from Washington, Monday of next week, Khan, together with his deputy, will vacate one of the most sought-after diplomatic positions after serving as Pakistan’s principal ambassador to the US for two years, beginning in February 2022.
In November 2021, Imran Khan, who was prime minister at the time, nominated the seasoned diplomat for the position.
