We started with wingers, switched to playing without wingers and without a striker, and ended up playing 4-2-4 in extra time, demonstrating our depth. Most importantly, we learned to live with whatever Germany threw at us. Although we had the potential to lose, we were also always in the running to win.
Even though we were better than our last four opponents, we weren’t hostile to Germany. It was a new test, one of perseverance, faith in the concept, teamwork, and persistence, but we did not give up and won. As a result, we performed well.
It was also an extremely rough match, with the most fouls in a European Championship game since 2016, yet we proved it.
